The December full moon is called the cold moon. It appears in late fall when the trees are bare, and the stars are bright. This moon is also a super moon–closer to the earth than usual—and heightens the energies of the aspects and positions of the planets. In many ways, this chart is a preparation for the movement of planets in the coming months.
The Moon (emotions, inner self) is placed in the air sign of Gemini, an air sign that represents duality. Mercury will move retrograde on the day of the Full Moon, and Mercury and Saturn will conjunct Galactic Center.
Galactic Center is in the center of the Milky Way; it radiates aspiration, energy, and motivation. It exudes love and light. Mercury (thought, communications) and Saturn (time, karma, lessons) sit in conjunction with Galactic Center. The position indicates reception through the higher mind (Mercury) and understanding of lessons on a higher level (Saturn). Think quantum change!
Sun, Moon, and Venus square Neptune (illusion, mysticism), which can cause confusion when reading between truth, spirit, and illusion. In other words, it creates difficulty with discernment with the direction of life, emotions, and love relationships. It can cause heightened sensitivity and artistic insights—or over-reaction. (Mercury retrograde adds to the cloudiness. Think of a foggy morning when the shapes of objects are hidden by mist.)
Nevertheless, the Galactic Center is powerful, and we can absorb information and insights, which will be revealed later. Venus (love, feminine) is placed in Sagittarius, and this placement helps. It’s possible to gain energy through love—by focusing on Sagittarian pursuits such as nature, physicality, and the joy of deep focus and/or meditation.
Mercury retrograde can be challenging during the holiday season. It creates a period of dormancy for a few weeks before the solstice—when we encounter another big shift. Seriously, Mercury retro is about resting and aligning with the quiet beauty of life. It’s not about new projects, and it moves life into a slower pace. (Move through life with intent and intuition. Rest, repair, and review.)
Mars (overall energy, male) opposes Uranus, causing hidden anger to surface. It’s important to remember that repressed anger often involves karmic patterns, and it’s impossible to receive light until we move through them. (When life repeats, ask the universe to help with changing the self.)
Mercury and Saturn trine Uranus, which can help with spiritual insights, alignment with guides and angels, and opening our minds to larger possibilities. It also aids with perception of the conjunction with Galactic Center.
Mars and Uranus square Pluto (subconscious). We continue to work on hidden issues, which perplex and limit us. Mercury and Saturn square Chiron, raising old wounds to the surface. We’ll encounter the emotions and energies (memories) of wounding, but the answers will likely come after the squares are released.
We will encounter important astrological changes in the coming months. The full moon gives time to prepare by connecting with the inner self–and perceiving our potential as spiritual and physical beings.
