April Astrology, Reflecting on Life

The events of the year flowed quickly as a result of acceleration, the increase of light and energy; however, the rapid flow of consciousness – and time – will slow considerably during the month of April when many planets move into retrograde. The “backward” motion of the planets offers a time of reflection, correction, and readjustment in accordance with the dictates of the inner self. Think of it as a time to go underground and reflect on life before coming to the surface with a sense of renewal and purpose.

Fortunately, there are positive aspects in April such as Venus in Pisces, joining Neptune and Chiron, which offers the opportunity to heal wounds and move into mystical love. Only the Sun – instead of four planets — is close to (or conjunct) Uranus in Aries, softening the rapid, sudden change in our inner and outer world. Additionally, April’s full moon will bestow positive energy.

Retrogrades

Five retrogrades allow time to linger and look at the landscape of life. Everything will seriously slow its pace. The planets will gift us with time to contemplate the steps that led to our current geography—and even more time to retrace our path and alter the course of our travels.

Mercury (communications, travel, electronics) moves retrograde from April 9-May 3, marking a time of review as opposed to action. It’s fine to work on existent projects, but it’s not a good time to begin new ones. The rule for Mercury retro is to review communication, expect breakdowns with electronics, and act in a patiently with delays. (Mercury will move from Taurus to Aries, so this retrograde involves “fire” including passion, temper, and impatience.)

Venus

Traditionally, Venus (beauty, love, feminine) in retrograde brings our fears and issues about relationships and love to the surface. But Venus is exalted in Pisces (water=emotion) and conjuncts (close to) Chiron, the wounded healer. It points to the possibility of mitigating karma through relinquishing lower beliefs and focusing on a new realm of opportunity. (Neptune, symbolizing illusion and idealism, is also in Pisces. Venus’ placement in the same sign, indicates that positive use of the imagination can bring in a new reality.)

Saturn (karma, limitation, time) in Sagittarius moves into retrograde on April 6, and it can bestow a heavy, weighted feeling to particular aspects of life — depending on what changes are needed in our personal lives. Saturn retrograde pushes us to say “no” to the aspects of life (and people) that are not working. It’s about releasing commitments, which cause frustration and unhappiness. Ultimately, it’s about making changes to achieve inner growth.

Jupiter

Jupiter (good fortune)  remains retrograde through June 8. Jupiter retrograde in Libra involves examining areas of happiness, growth, and wealth to create balance. It’s a good time for spiritual reflection and listening to the inner self. For example, it may be a time of becoming convinced that we truly want our relationship, particular direction with work, or lifestyle—and knowing they are a source of happiness.

Pluto (underworld, transformation)  retrograde can increase our capacity to regenerate in any area of life, particularly if we are willing to look at our inner issues that hidden beneath problems and/or lack of results. Pluto’s regenerative ability applies to the body, inner psychology, and spiritual nature.

Overall, April is a good month to examine our limitations in love and our ability to use thought to transcend limitations of the mind and mass consciousness. The mind tends to repeat our beliefs in response to particular stimuli. Through the use of love and will, we can alter both thought and emotion, which can create harmonious change.

Notes on Aspects:

  1. Among the stronger aspects, Venus squares Saturn, which can involve releasing karma relating to love and relationships (thoughts, emotions, and beliefs traveling in the wrong direction.) On the whole, universal love is quite a bit stronger than a negative aspect, and Venus is LOVE. By focusing on universal, mystical love, we can move into a higher vibration.
  2.  Jupiter opposes Uranus. When Jupiter and Uranus are in opposition, it gives the desire to start anew and leave behind current restrictions and structures. It’s probably best to create small adventures and avoid “huge” changes—when several planets are retrograde.
  3. Mars and Pluto trine (harmonious) on April 6, increasing charisma and the desire to succeed. Both planets are placed in earth signs, giving power to alter our outer life.
  4. Jupiter opposes Pluto, which can magnify the desire for success and power. It’s fine to move into achievement and success if it’s based on the heart—but not for purposes of the ego.
  5. Despite the retrogrades, there are many fine energies for developing a stronger connection with the inner self and moving into a place of love divine.

Finding Higher Vibrations

Moving through the shift requires diligence, persistence, and connection; it also requires love. Simply loving our lives invokes a powerful state of being that invokes transformation.

  1. The universe reveals our lower and higher nature as a part of altering our frequency to a higher level. When the lower nature is revealed, observe and acknowledge. Trust the process. Love both parts of you. Let go of judgment.
  2. Time is one of the issues of the current shift. Time lengthens when we meditate or work with the soul. It shortens when we listen to the ego (monkey mind), become too involved in worldly affairs, or listen too much to the task list. By watching the passage of time, we receive insights about our behavior and the placement of the heart.
  3. Face the inevitable with a strong heart. Awakening changes our perception of life. Welcome it and move into the deepening motion of new life. (Accept new perspectives, let go of people, locations, and events, and open to the widening of life.)
  4. Call on your guides and angels often. A strong connection with our angels can change “reality” immensely. Ask them for the best possible vision (or version) of life—and insights and intuitions on how to bring it into being.
  5. See the beauty whenever possible. Look for the smiles of people with open hearts. Notice the perpetual, spiritual alignment of children and animals. Spend time in nature. Make time for 2 or 3 short walks or sit outside and meditate.
  6. Whenever possible, choose not to judge. When life seems to flow in the wrong direction, ask if there is a lesson or benefit in the change of direction. Sometimes, we are asked to slow down, enjoy nature, or see life from a new perspective. Value and learn from twists and turns in life.
  7. Ask for greater connection, development of spiritual gifts, and the power to move more deeply into the spiritual self. Sometimes, we have to ask for what we want.
  8. (It’s helpful to visualize how we feel and respond in a more spiritual state.) Obviously, some of us feel the shift more strongly than others. The universe speaks to us in accordance with our inner state of connection.
  9. Sometimes, it’s helpful to focus on what we gained from the difficulties of the past. After all, we are the result of all of our experiences, which can give insight into our spiritual nature.

New Moon Forecast: A Change in the Weather

Delicate blossoms of flowering trees break the gray skies of late spring rain, and the stars are luminous in the dark, night sky. The New Moon (March 27) marked the beginning of a new cycle of change. On the first few days following the New Moon, we should think of discarding old elements of our life. As the moon grows, it’s important to focus on creating our dreams and desires.

The new moon chart places our attention on the element of fire. Fire is creative, ruling dreams and passion. There are six planets in fire signs in the New Moon chart, which bestow incredible impetus to act on dreams and inner plans. This placement can give a burst of energy to move through obstacles and bring dreams into physical form.

Water is emotion, and spiritual mastery relates to emotion. By clearing emotional patterns, we find space for connection and insight. Neptune and Chiron in Pisces continue to emphasize the need to release emotional patterns based on our past experiences and beliefs. South Node in Pisces asks for the creation of new emotional patterns, which are based on compassion but bring change and results. (Emotional clearing takes work, but it clears the heart space—and brings freedom from limitation.)

Earth is the fabric of the physical world, and it is the substance that reflects our dreams, thoughts, and actions. Mars sits in Taurus, and Pluto is placed in Capricorn. Mars in Taurus gives strength to move through obstacles, create abundance, and enjoy the beauty of life. Mars (male, assertion) and Pluto (underworld, transformation) are trine (harmonious), indicating the possibility of financial success—by clearing old patterns and subconscious beliefs.

Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and Uranus are placed in fire. Sun is the masculine, life giving force of the outer life, and Moon rules the feminine, emotional aspect of the inner self. Mercury is communication, and Venus is the beautiful aspect of the feminine in the physical world. Uranus rules change and awakening. All of the planets are placed in Aries, strengthening the pulse of creating the “new” and giving birth to the inner self. (This is a very strong pulse with planets in the same sign.)

Sun, Moon, and Venus square Saturn (limitation, karma), indicating a struggle between perceptions of the past and the motion of a new beginning. Saturn can refer to memories, which are perceived as the darker side of life. It may become necessary to override old beliefs and thoughts with a brighter vision of life, which is a wonderfully, conscious action.

Venus and Jupiter are retrograde. Together, they rule hope, abundance, beauty, and good fortune, making it an excellent time to dream up experiences along these lines of thought and emotion. When we “feel” what is lacking, it’s excellent to see (and plan to experience) the opposite.

Jupiter sits in Libra, the only air sign presented in the chart. Air brings clarity of thought, vision, and communication. Jupiter, the ruler of good fortune, is opposite Uranus (sudden change) and exactly square Pluto (underworld, transformation.) Jupiter square Uranus gives the urge to break through old patterns and increases the desire for freedom and new action.

Jupiter opposite Pluto can create a huge desire to succeed—at all costs. Pluto in Capricorn rules the finances and structure of the outer world. Jupiter in Libra speaks of justice and balance. Together in this aspect, they can create a focus to push through boundaries and accomplish a great deal. But Jupiter can exaggerate our feelings, and Pluto can add a huge feeling of drive. (It’s best move slowly and think about the best long-term outcome for everyone, who is involved.)

Sabian Symbols, based on Lynda Hill’s Sabian Symbols

Sun and Moon are on Aries 8, “A Woman’s Hat with Streamers Blown by the East Wind.” The east wind is gentle; it marks new beginnings in the Native American system. In Eastern philosophy, it can refer to the journey of following the inner path.

Mercury sits on Aries 26, “A Person Possessed of More Gifts Than They Can Hold.” This symbol is perfect for this time of change. Each of us has abilities, powers, and insights, which may not have been revealed. By focusing on our inner abilities and gifts – and using them – we can bring about a great deal of positive change.

Venus is on Aries 4, “Two Lovers Strolling on a Secluded Walk.” With Venus retrograde, the symbol can point to enjoying love and experiencing – or experiencing the need for greater love and understanding. Venus retrograde encourages us to focus on the kind of love that we want to receive, experience, and give.

Mars is placed on Taurus 13, “ A Porter Carrying a Mountain of Luggage”. The symbol can refer to the need to release the “heaviness” of life or refusing to carry the burden of others. For many light workers, it may refer to need to release some of world karma and surrendering the connection with mass consciousness.

Seeking Higher Consciousness

Everything is related. When following a desire, we increase and diminish parts of life. Time is a simple example. When we delve into our spiritual practice, we take time away from a previous pursuit. When we see the beauty in nature, we discard other thoughts. (When I write this, I think of nothing else.)

Over time, the beauty grows. The spiritual practice bears flowers and gifts. Our lives begin to resemble the fabric of the inner self, and we know to “read” life by its resonance with our heart.  We are given awareness of the sensation of the inner self in the varying facets and appearances of life.

With the influx of energies, there is a shift in perception, feelings, and responses to energy. Many people are awakening and bringing more light to the planet. As awakening continues, we perceive life differently because light causes everything to move at a higher frequency.

Here are a few insights:

  1. As we become more conscious, our awareness shifts. We become aware that “reality” shifts, spins, and stirs with the state of our consciousness, which is reflected in the flow of events.
  2. We affect “life” and our lives more than we want to admit. Our lower thoughts and feelings may attract an irritable person, and higher thoughts may pull in a flow of love. (For example, the sun shines when we think a higher thought, or we receive a pleasant email from a loved one.)
  3. Consciousness connects us more deeply to all sources of information and energy. We feel life more intensely. We may feel more drawn or repelled to particular sources of information. Our higher consciousness begins to direct us more strongly.
  4. Swings in duality – the movement of emotions and thoughts – may seem stronger. When we experience the inner self, consciousness moves into a place of centeredness. It focuses on “ONE” point. Naturally, we’re more aware of the motion after a quiet experience.
  5. Increased consciousness brings awareness of our impact on our internal/external state. We begin to understand how our happiness and unhappiness respond to our internal dialog, old beliefs, and expectations. With this awareness, life shifts.
  6. “Giving” and “helping” are subtly changing. We can hold a vision or send light to anyone, but our spiritual help is balanced with the spiritual commitment and effort of the receiver. (In the Piscean Age, healers and light workers gave in a different way by pouring out energy whenever they felt led to share and help. In the Aquarian Age, we balance and gauge energy for the best effect.)
  7. During flashes of awakening, we perceive a beautiful future in a balanced world. There is a feeling of reassurance, comfort, and support. (We may wonder where it is in difficult moments, but it is how the universe shares its visions—and activates it through our light.)
  8. We begin to understand how consciousness directs overall planetary energy. And we see how shifts in personal consciousness affect our world and the world at large.

Equinox Energy – Almost Time to Move Forward

The equinox occurred on March 20. We’ll feel the energy for the next several weeks. (Chart is based on the moment of the equinox.)

With the beautiful, spring-like weather and planets placed in interesting designs, we can contemplate beauty, the dreams of the higher self, and it’s almost time to take action to create a better life. With five planets in Aries, which is appropriately symbolized by the ram, we feel the “push” to initiate action, but it’s best to wait a week or two to think about ideas thoroughly because the planets in Aries co-join the disruptive square with Uranus/Pluto.

When combined with several planets in fire, Uranus can feel combustive and can bring sudden change. It’s wise to create a strategy based on the desires of the inner self—and slowly move into this plan with a “cool” head. Along with this, we are clearing karma from the past age, past lives, and releasing trauma (Neptune, Chiron, and South Node in Pisces.) These feelings, sensations, and opportunities will extend into mid-May.

It’s important to know it’s a time of adjustment. Our feelings may change on a daily basis. We may feel life more strongly than we have in the past because of awakening. Everything feels intense when the light becomes stronger. We also feel more of the darkness and angst because everyone is becoming more intuitive. (This is also part of working through the karmic past.)

The Sun (life), Mercury (communications), Venus (beauty, love), and Uranus (quantum field, sudden change) are placed in Aries. Aries is the beginning of the zodiac when life turns in the new cycle of the year. Aries is ruled by Mars (assertion and action), and it’s a passionate fire sign, which can awaken our feelings to expand and alter the course of life. (It would be perfect except that their energy aligns with Uranus in Aries, which can make energy move in cosmic—or very strange—directions.

Mercury affects all forms of communications including internet, transportation, emails, and conversations. Mercury in Aries hastens the process in a brusque way. (Mercury rules air, and it prefers clarity and time to think deeply. Mercury in Aries simply wants action.)

Venus, the ruler of love and beauty, is also placed in Aries. She is passionate and can be compulsive with this placement. With Venus retrograde, it’s important to realize love may feel as if it is fading or aspects of life are not so exciting. It’s helpful to remember that we are loved by the universe, and love will return to our lives in a renewed form.

Mars (assertion, male energy) is placed in Taurus, an earth sign governing possessions and material goods. It also gives connection to the earth and nature, which is useful with this volatile chart. This is a calming position that helps in finding grounding and seeing the beauty of life.

Jupiter (good fortune) sits in Libra, the only air sign in the chart. Air lends clarity to thought; it helps to separate passion and beliefs from the mind. (For example, I believe this because I was raised in this way. Maybe, it’s not true.) Jupiter in Libra also helps in finding beauty, balance, and grace on the walk of everyday life.

Saturn (discipline, karma) remains in Sagittarius, continuing the emphasis on soul searching, personal discipline, and the value of the spiritual life. Neptune (mysticism), Chiron (wounded healer), and South Node (solutions, which are no longer applicable) are placed in Pisces, indicating the importance of working through the drama and karma of the past age.

Notes

  • Mars (assertion) trines Saturn, which can give insight in taking the right, disciplined action—particularly through deliberate, meditative focus.
  • Saturn (limitation) trines Uranus, hinting at progress and good fortune through spiritual discipline.
  • The cardinal cross can make life feel very tense. It’s helpful to know it’s only a feeling. It disappears when meditating and/or when connected to the inner self.
  • There is very, powerful energy for creating change. With focus, it can be employed to create big, positive shifts.
  • Continue to work with karma and negative feelings/thoughts. Remember that emotion can change through positive focus and effort.

Moving into Awakening

Part of awakening involves gaining greater consciousness, which involves increased awareness. Awareness of thought, emotion, and sensation—and their impact on us—can help a great deal in discovering the inner self. In part, awakening is about learning to alter our focus, thoughts, and feelings to raise the level of our consciousness.

Here are a few tips:

  1. We attract a deeper state of awakening by reflecting on spirituality. Thinking about past experiences–and the feeling of flow and connection—to invoke a spiritual state. This practice engages the awakened self. Also, it literally teaches the mind to replicate higher frequencies. When we think about a spiritual state, we pull the energy into our mind, emotions, and body.
  2. Thought alters the placement of our consciousness. We can think about problems or focus on solutions. When we focus on harmony or peace, we literally attract it. If we stay with the thought for a few minutes, we receive visuals and memories (if we have experienced the state in the past.) Focusing on positive thoughts invokes a specific state of consciousness. It’s helpful to note the effect of a thought. Does it raise or lower our frequency?
  3. Emotions come from beliefs, thoughts, sensations, other people, and mass consciousness. Identifying the source of an emotion is incredibly useful—as is identifying patterns. When we center in the heart space, the emotions often cease. (This is known as centering.) The broadcast of strong emotion from others is also diminished. (Many of our emotions are transmitted from others and media.)
  4. Pull thoughts, emotions, and sensations back into the body to create a state of stillness. We tend to project and broadcast our feelings and thoughts. When stillness comes, focus on light. When possible, send light to others. (When we are still, there is a very subtle flow of energy.)
  5. Use the imagination positively. Visualize positive events, the sensation of well-being, and an immense well of physical energy. Imagine the opposite of negative experiences or sensations. Imagine pink light (love) moving into the visualization and energizing it positively. (We can check with the body to see how we feel after visualization. Relaxation and expansion are associated with higher consciousness; tension and contraction are associated with lower self.)
  6. Focusing on the heart leads naturally to a state of love. Universal love helps in vibrating above difficulties in life as well as mass consciousness. It also opens the channel for receiving intuition and higher truth.
  7. Acts of kindness affect the world. When we help others, raise their consciousness, or send love (and/or peaceful emotions), it raises the vibratory rate of the planet.

Notes: Simply noticing states of consciousness as the presence of thoughts, moods, or beliefs alters the flow of consciousness and brings increased awareness.

Short & Long Term Planetary Aspects

Several short and long term aspects are found in the planetary line-up. The aspects will quicken and act as catalysts during next week’s equinox. Any event of intensity such as the full/new moon, eclipse, or equinox makes the weather more intense. We only have a few more weeks of these aspects, but they definitely exert a force.
Planetary aspects can definitely cause strange and/or profound feelings, and it’s good to explore them. In short, they won’t last forever but they definitely influence perceptions, thoughts and feelings. (Inner awareness always helps in finding solutions.)

Venus is currently retrograde in Aries, the sign that is in detriment for this planet. Venus (femininity, abundance, beauty) likes to rule through beauty, artistic balance, and the natural world. When placed in Aries, she becomes a warrior with a sword, and her job is to defend and draw boundaries about love. (This placement extends through April 15.)

(When planets are retrograde, they tell us about what is not working, where our focus needs changing, and how to make new plans for the future. Essentially, they stop “helping” for a few weeks or months, but the planets brings fresh, bright energy on their return—when moving into direct motion.)

Venus is about love, but the meaning changes when she moves into retrograde. We tend notice where there is not love in our lives – including self-love, relationships, and work. Admittedly, we have to notice the missing elements to create them, but Venus retrograde also imbues feelings of loneliness, reflection on past hurts, and a lack of hope.

Fortunately, it’s possible to use the energy to visualize a new love for life, better partnerships, and more abundance through awareness of the energy. For example, it’s useful to know where boundaries are needed, to delineate the value of friends and relationships, and notice patterns in our lives. The advantage les in knowing it’s possible to change reality by knowing what we want, imagining it clearly, and taking small actions to bring into being.

T-square and Cardinal Square

The current pressure and tension keep us in a tight grip through the T-square between Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto.  Jupiter (good fortune) sits in Libra with a focus on justice, beauty, and balance. Uranus in Aries longs to burst into the beginning of the New Age like a wild rebel, creating bursts of change here and there. Pluto is placed in Capricorn, affecting structure, the underworld, and hidden truth.

A T-square is somewhat represented by its appearance. Oppositions pull our energy in two directions, forming the top of the “T”, and squares cause tension, forming the base of the letter. In this case, Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries are in opposite signs, and they both square Pluto.  Uranus and Pluto moved into square position in 2012; it’s part of the overall weirdness of the New Age.

By adding Jupiter to the mix, the tension is heightened. Not surprisingly, the T-square began around Election Day. When we feel tension and anxiety for no particular reason, it can relate to the pressure of this aspect. It can be compounded when Sun, Moon, or Mercury change positions and alter the T-square into a cardinal square.  (Next week, more planets will join in and create a cardinal cross.) The T-square subsides in April.

Planets and South Node in Pisces

Pisces is a perfectly good sign. It’s just that it currently represents the Past Age, and the South Node placed in Pisces. The South Node of the Moon indicates the probability of attempting to solve problems with same mindset used in the past.  The unlikelihood of finding a solution is compounded by the placement of Neptune (illusion, idealism) and Chiron (wounded healer) in Pisces.

Pisces ruled the Past Age, which includes emotional turmoil, karma, and illusion. Neptune in Pisces can ignite the imagination and connect our soul with beauty, but it can also bring us together through the lower emotions of mass consciousness. Its illusive nature can hide the truth and slow our progress. It also engages our intuition and imagination, which can be used in a lower or higher sense.

Chiron in Pisces offers an opportunity to clear karma through new actions, thoughts, and realizations, particularly in the arena of emotions. But the South Node encourages repetition of past patterns, making it difficult to see our way out of the emotional fog. It can take longer than usual to work through a karmic pattern because it’s difficult to “see” and perceive the “truth”.

With these three planets placed in Pisces, it causes difficulty in creating a clear path to a “higher” future. It can feel confusing to discern between intuition and illusion when emotions feel intense and/or when we’re moving through old patterns and limitations. We’ll have a bit more clarity when the pattern changes in May.

Overall, we’re experiencing tension, old emotions/patterns, and a time to reflect on love. It’s helpful to know that the emotions, tension, and angst are part of passing phase—and we can always travel into the inner self where light and love abound.

Dealing with the Shift

The important part of the energy lies in the urgency to follow the heart. The heart longs for love and adventure; it is bold and true. It longs to express the substance of the soul.  The heart holds us in connection with all that is real and true.

When our actions and work come from the heart, life changes. Love radiates to everyone in our field. When many people do this (even for a few minutes), the outer world alters. (it’s impossible to feel the oscillation.)

Here are a few tips:

  1. The clearing process involves the lower mind and emotions. We may hear patterns or experience feelings from long ago. Ask to delete and clear the pattern and feeling. Ask to connect with the higher self. (As the patterns leave, new energy will take their place. It’s helpful to imagine yourself from a different perception such as living life from a happier perspective.)
  2. The acceleration process bestows a longing for expansion, the dream of a better life. Ask for a clear vision and feeling. Focus on it often and imagine living in this space of being. (Take time to define peace and happiness. This simple act brings them into your life.)
  3. It’s possible to move out of oscillation and the roar of mass consciousness (anger and fear) by centering in the inner self. By focusing on the inner self, it’s impossible to feel anything other than stillness and/or love.
  4. Sometimes, you feel surprisingly heavy or weighed down by life. You may feel it’s impossible to move through a character flaw or create the next change in life. Likely, your thought or feeling engaged mass consciousness, and you are feeling many people with the same problem. It’s helpful to reflect on a time when you feel light, and life felt easier.
  5. Physical tiredness comes and goes with the shift. It’s normal to feel tired when energy changes. Rest when you can. Take advantage of energetic periods. Visualize yourself with more energy whenever possible and recall periods of time when you felt healthy and vital. (Nature helps a great deal with physical tiredness. The earth and night sky radiate energies for healing.)
  6. We may feel the shift in brief moments when life expands in a beautiful wave. There is a longing for more experience and sensation—the widening of the wave of life. These feelings come and go like waves of emotion or ripples on a lake. They are indicators of greater awakening.
  7. Deeply engage when you experience lighter, happier feelings. It’s best to refrain from sharing the feeling with friends. Contemplate your life, future, and sharing your gifts. (Use these times to powerfully create a vision of a better life and see your gifts expanding.)
  8. Smile when life is difficult. Move past irritation and lower thoughts. (We all have them!) Meditate on pink light and ask to see the beauty in life.
  9. Choose 2 or 3 tasks to express the heart on a daily basis. You may feel surprised at the outcome. (Your energy will soar if you’re truly aligned with the heart–and acting on intuition.)
