A Super New Moon!

The New Moon appears on August 30 – just in time for the holiday weekend. It’s a Black Moon, occurring as the 2nd New Moon of the month, and it’s a Super Moon, which means it’s close to the earth. It’s also one of the best moons of the year.

Typically, the New Moon brings a time of the void when nature becomes quiet, and plants and seeds refuse to grow. Time is best spent in inner contemplation, reaching into the darkness (or unknown) for new information.

However, this Moon is different. It’s quite expansive with many trines with Uranus, the planet of quantum and/or sudden change. Uranus can also bring miracles, thoughts of the highest form, and amazing change when the planets form positive aspects with it. And they do!

Of course, it’s not just about the energy. It’s also how we use or don’t use it for growth. On this note, it’s wise to take time for inner reflection and ask for and/or visualize a big, positive shift.

In this New Moon chart, many planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto) are found in earth. All of the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars) are in discerning Virgo, represented as the high priestess who holds the key to unseen mysteries. Virgo likes order and attention to detail, and discernment; it emphasizes health and hygiene. Virgo can also act in overly critical way. (If you feel critical, it will pass in a few days.)

However, the New Moon will not feel particularly heavy or earthy because Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) plays a huge role in the chart. Uranus can cause chaos or upset, or it can be sparkly and generous with a touch of genius—as it is in this chart.  When Uranus is at its best, it encourages discovery, adventure, and exploration of the new and unknown. There are many trines, composed of the inner planets, that ask us to jump into the future in a new way.

Mild challenges occur in aspects with Jupiter, the planet of good fortune and expansion. None of the energies are particularly “bad”, but it’s good to have awareness about them. Sun, Moon, Venus, and Mars square Jupiter.  Sun square Jupiter can bring opportunity, but there’s probably some aspect of the self that requires change. Fortunately, the aspect gives the power to push through the block. Moon square Jupiter heightens emotion and brings a tendency to exaggerate, and changeability. Venus square Jupiter heightens creativity and optimism. Mars square Jupiter bestows courage, enthusiasm, and energy.

Lovely trines are found with Saturn (karma, time). Sun, Moon, Venus, and Mars trine (harmonious) Saturn. Trines with Saturn can aid with practical insights, applying our inner knowledge in a practical way, and developing our capacity for organization and management. These are helpful aspects, helping in adding stability to Uranus’ exciting, flashing energy.

Venus (love, relationships) opposes Neptune (mysticism, illusion), making it feel easy to project love into relationships that don’t work–or being taken in by the illusion of love. Mars (male, assertion) in opposition to Neptune can bring discouragement and/or a feeling of weakness about pursuits in life. Venus (love, relationships) trines Pluto (underworld, transformation) and adds depth to passion, love, and relationships.

All in all, it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with the spiritual world and discover a way of expressing that inner knowledge on the physical plane. With many planets in earth, the message is to find a new way of living, thinking, and loving—and to create a life that matches it.
