New Moon Forecast

The New Moon appeared last night on January 16. The New Moon is a time of looking inward and waiting for new life to take form. It’s a time of reflection, which is particularly significant with a lunar eclipse on January 31—when we move in and out of the void. (In metaphysics, the void symbolizes the unknown. By illuminating it with our inner light, we find the path of the soul.)

Much of the New Moon chart is straightforward with six planets including Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Saturn, and Pluto placed in Capricorn. The earth sign of Capricorn is represented by the goat, and it can refer to climbing to new heights, building structure in the inner/outer world, and success in the physical world. (The caution involves not becoming too obsessed by the trappings of the outer world.) All of the planets are direct, aiding with forward movement in the outer world.

When six planets are placed in a single sign, there’s obviously an emphasis on understanding the energies of Capricorn. In this case, the Moon (inner self, emotions) indicates our course. It sits on Capricorn 27, “A Mountain Pilgrimage”, and the mountain often refers to the spiritual quest, the desire to reach for more truth and understanding of qualities of the soul. It is the apex on the journey on a spiritual level although it can refer to reaching for more through career and endeavors in life.

The theme of long term planning, practicality, and releasing the past –– as well as what is unnecessary on our journey — remains for the next two weeks. The best way of discerning this comes from connecting with the inner self and finding the beauty of our personal journey.

Sun (life), Moon (inner self), and Venus (love, relationships) square Uranus (New Age, quantum field). In general, squares cause tension, and Uranus sends eclectic beams of energy that can bring new, fascinating, and original ideas—or interrupt the flow of consciousness. (Expect the unexpected, and review ideas before taking action.)

The universe provides a stable plan and shakes it up with Uranian energy that encourages internal growth, awakening, and seeing life from a different perspective. (Uranus is often erratic so take time to weigh the value of thoughts and ideas.) Along with this, the North Node (our spiritual path) is in Leo, making the quest about love. (It’s about bringing more love into work and everyday life—and following the heart.)

Mercury (communications, mind) placed in Capricorn is highly practical and interested in making the outer aspects of life work well. In this sign, the mind works in a slow, methodical way. Mercury conjuncts (close to) Saturn, which may give insights in overcoming patterns, beliefs, and personal history, which have caused limitation in the past.

Venus (material possessions, love, relationships) tends to run hot and cold in Capricorn with cool responses followed by reactions. which can feel heavy and cold. But it’s also about planning what we want to receive in relationships and how we need to feel love for growth and change. Venus conjuncts (close to) Sun (outer life), Moon (inner life), and Saturn (karma), which increases the possibility of realizations that reveal our inner patterns and limitations while giving insights to heal.

Mars (male, assertion) in Scorpio increases emotional flow. Its Sabian Symbol symbolizes “x-ray vision”, seeing through outer reality and its trappings to underlying truth. Mars conjuncts (close to) Jupiter (expansion, good fortune). Jupiter amplifies and expands whatever it touches, and, in this case, it increases Mars’ desire to take action in the physical world.

Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) in Scorpio trines (beneficial) Neptune (illusion, mysticism) in Pisces. It’s a powerful trine between two forces. In mythology, Jupiter ruled the physical world, and Neptune ruled the seas. Both planets are placed in water, touching our dreams and visions with a lovely, hopeful energy, which is much needed in the world.

Sun, Moon, and Venus conjunct (close to) Pluto, which can increase our power and ability to act as well as our ability to perceive our inner resources. Pluto often presents the “darkness” so that we can find our inner power to transform it from negative to positive state through reflection on the inner self.

Uranus (New Age, awakening) squares Pluto (subconscious, transformation), dredging up both the past and unknown for clearing and change.

Mars (action, male) and Jupiter (expansion) trine Chiron (wounded healer), encouraging healing through positive action and motion. Saturn (karma, limitation) squares (tension) Chiron, indicating the necessity of moving through (or rewriting) the past to heal the fabric of life.
