The New Moon appeared on May 15. It’s a time of slipping into the void, a short period that occurs before moving into a cycle of change. The New Moon Chart is weighted with six planets in earth. Jupiter continues to rise on the horizon, bringing good fortune and stamina. Uranus moves into Taurus on the day of the New Moon, marking a motion into the physical realization of the New Age.
With Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Uranus in Taurus, the planets ask for a focus on beauty and growth. Sun (outer self, life) and Moon (inner self, emotions) are conjunct (close) in Taurus, the earth sign ruling abundance, physical beauty, and wealth. Sun and Moon trine Mars (masculine, assertiveness), making it easier to take inspired, strong action in the right direction. Sun and Moon also trine Pluto (subconscious, transmutation), which can aid in illuminating the shadows in life and facilitate moving forward in the light. (Jung taught that our gifts lie within the darkness of the self.)
Mercury (communications, electronics) recently moved into Taurus. Our thoughts may focus on abundance, beauty, and alteration of our environment. It gives connection with nature, amplifying our ability to see color, hear sound, and align with the rhythm of the natural world. Mercury in Taurus also stabilizes and grounds the body, and it aids with creating prosperity.
Mercury (communication) squares Mars (masculine, assertiveness). Mercury in Taurus can cause stubbornness, lack of flexibility, and an inability to see the viewpoint of others, and Mars pushes the desire to act on our thoughts in an assertive and/or aggressive way. The challenge lies in saying how we feel about our frustrations, anger, or upset in a way that bring resolution.
Mercury also trines Saturn (structure, karma). A trine is a harmonoius aspect, which allows use of Saturn’s qualities such as structure, long term planning, discipline, and practicality. These qualities can be applied mentally when accessing the best way to approach future desires. Mercury conjuncts Uranus (sudden change, awakening), and it can cause erratic and/or inspired, brilliant thoughts.
Venus (love, abundance, feminine) is placed in Gemini, the twins, an air sign, which encourages communication, friends, short journeys, and quick conversation. Venus squares Neptune (idealism, mysticism, illusion). The square is beneficial; it offers attunement to physical and spiritual beauty, which gives greater alignment with the inner self. Take time to see the world through this perspective.
Mars (male, assertion) will move into Aquarius on May 16. The energies of Mars and Aquarius are not particularly compatible. Mars likes strong, direct action, and Aquarius likes to think, share big ideas, and act on causes for humanity-at-large. Put the two together, and there’s a strong desire to become more individual, promote positive group endeavors, and tune into New Age ideals. (The caution is becoming too open to ideas without considering them thoroughly and to refrain from mental superiority.)
Mars squares Uranus, which is volatile. It can denote sudden, erratic change or ideas and thoughts bordering on genius that create breakthrough moments. With this aspect – and life at this time – it’s important to identify the cause of pain in our lives and seek new, original solutions. (On a global level, it’s not enough to know there are environmental problems. We must see a solution and the change that would follow. We need to identify our highest version of the world and begin by taking small actions. The same is true with social and personal issues.)
Jupiter (good fortune, expansion) in Scorpio remains close to the earth, and it lifts our spirits, gives vitality, and strength to pursue our inner goals. Jupiter trines (harmonious) Neptune (mysticism, idealism), and the aspect renews optimism, harmony, and a sense of well-being.
Uranus moves into Taurus today. It’s a massive change that will affect many of our perceptions about spiritual change, environmental issues, and abundance. (I’m visualizing everyone in a comfortable state of abundance.) Earth changes may accompany this shift.
Sun and Moon trine (harmonious) Pluto (underworld), indicating the possibility of becoming more resourceful when looking at the past—and the darkness of the world at large. Part of spiritual change is understanding the events within the self and world, which cast us into darkness. From this vantage point, we can vibrate above them.
Venus (love, relationships) and Saturn (karma, limitation) square Chiron, the wounded healer. The issues most likely to surface will involve love, relationships, and personal karma. However, this chart is powerful enough to help in creating a “new” self who is freer, lighter, and less reactive to old karma.
- It’s a beautiful chart with Sun/Moon/Mercury in Taurus, which is ruled by Venus, goddess of love and beauty. It’s a wonderful time to think about transforming our lives with these two qualities. Sun/Moon trines Pluto, offering an opportunity to transcend our current limitations.
- Uranus moves into Taurus, and it expands our ability to create our New Age principles in physical form. The shift appears on the New Moon, indicating the possibility of a new way of living and perceiving life.
- Throughout the year, Mars creates conjunctions and squares with the outer planets, emphasizing the need to reflect thoroughly on action. The best actions are well timed, resulting from the impetus of the inner self, and wrong actions come from habitual, negative emotions and repetitive thoughts based on patterns. (Mars conjuncts (close) Pluto (subconscious)—an indication that old patterns are likely to surface.)
- Mars in Aquarius currently squares Uranus in Taurus, which can cause erratic action, sudden change, and/or inspiration that leads to awakening. Mars square (tension) Uranus tends to bring anger and irritability to the surface. It’s easier to change the feeling and/or suspend judgement of others when we know the cause is merely temporary.
- We may experience the sensation of old patterns, relating to love and karma, but there are positive energies available to transmute them.
Sabian Symbols, based on Lynda Hill’s The Sabian Oracle
Sun/Moon is placed on Taurus 25, “A Large Well-Kept Public Park” could symbolize future care of the earth as a beautiful, collective space. With current earth changes, it may represent a way of aligning with nature in a positive, group experience. (It may include care of flora, fauna, etc. It’s interesting to note that much of our wilderness is National Forest land.)
Mercury sits on Taurus 5, “A Youthful Widow, Fresh and Soul-Cleaned from Grief, Kneels at an Open Grave to Receive the Secret of Eternal Life”. Many of us have passed through difficult soul lessons, including grief, during this entry into the New Age. The symbol indicates a possibility of transcending disappointments and grief to create a new, whole life.
Venus is placed on Gemini 26, “Winter Frost in the Woods” depicts an image of dormancy—the long sleep of nature during winter months. We may long for a new type of love, a deeper heart understanding of life. The time is not now, but it is coming as we move a shift of consciousness.
Mars sits on Capricorn 30, “Directors of a Large Firm Meet in Secret Conference”. The term, directors, could refer to the government, angels, or forces of nature. On the physical level, secrets and policies are created behind closed doors. On the spiritual level, we follow our guides and angels, which are unseen but act as directors nonetheless. (It’s also true that we’re moving into a New Age, which does seem directed by forces that are yet unknown.)
Jupiter sits on Scorpio 18, “A Quiet Path through Woods Brilliant in Autumn Coloring” refers to change, specifically to the type of change that occurs when life becomes dormant. Scorpio penetrates into the darkness, and the symbol may refer to old issues, which need clearing and releasing, before reaping the harvest of Jupiter’s benevolence.
