Planetary Change: Equinox Energies

With the beautiful, spring weather and planets placed in interesting designs, we can contemplate beauty, the dreams of the higher self, and take action to create a better life. With three planets (Sun, Neptune, and Chiron) in Pisces, the emphasis remains on emotion because Pisces is a water sign, symbolized by two fishes (emotions) swimming in opposite directions. If we can reconcile the opposites within the self (the light and darkness), it’s possible to move into a higher dimension or representation of life.
The Moon is placed in Taurus, the earth sign ruled by Venus, and it brings needed grounding to the chart by stabilizing emotion. The Moon makes a lovely, harmonious trine to Mars and Saturn, which helps with expression of emotion and creating structure in the physical world. (Earth moves more slowly than the other elements. Take time for development of ideas and plans.)
Mercury (communications) and Venus (feminine, love) are placed in Aries, the fiery sign, which loves change and action. These energies are frustrated by squares with Saturn and Pluto. Evidently, we’re working through karma and hidden issues in the subconscious that block and slow successful action.
Mercury will move into retrograde on Thursday, March 22, and it’s important to rest and review our pursuits by weighing their value on our spiritual journey. It tends to cause confusion with communications and travel. It marks a time to rest, reflect, and complete projects, which are underway. It’s helpful to visualize smooth traffic, fast computer connections, and clear phone calls.
Mars (assertiveness, masculine) is placed in the earth sign of Capricorn. Again, it’s a slow, stabilizing motion. A trine with Uranus hints at the power associated with creating change through awareness of the awakened self. the fire sign of Sagittarius and pushes for change in the material/physical world.
Mercury, Venus, and Uranus square Pluto, which can feel frustrating. Planets in Aries like to initiate change, act boldly, and create new plans. But it’s not possible (yet) to create changes through new thoughts, love, or realizations made through awakening. It also means some truth is hidden within the darkness of the subconscious, which needs transformation.
The stars say we must wait for action until the time is ripe, and our ideas gain maturity. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and it is “headstrong”, meaning it doesn’t always think wisely or maturely. We may have exactly the right ideas, but we will need time to make plans.
In spiritual work, ideas often change as we apply them in the material world. We may have a beautiful concept that simply doesn’t work for others as it does for us, or we may need to re-frame it with a new format or application. (For example, we may know exactly how we feel, but it takes practice to learn how to find the right phrase or tone.) It’s also possible that we need time to adjust to the new energies.
In the meanwhile, Chiron (wounded healer) is conjunct the Sun, the symbol of life and light. This aspect amplifies our ability to heal. Mars (male, action) squares Chiron, indicating the need to clear karma and habits, which are associated with negative action and emotion. Jupiter (good fortune) trines Chiron, a harmonious aspect indicating the expansion of “good” and positive energy through the internal work associated with self-healing.

  • Working with two opposite states is the theme for the year. It doesn’t mean all drama comes from us, but it does mean we react to it. If we can calm emotional reaction, we can often find answers hidden beneath the surface. This is one of the important tests associated with the element of water (Pisces).
  • Mercury (thought) and Venus (love) are placed in Aries; the opposite energy of Pisces. Blocks with action appear through the chart. There are karmic qualities, which may relate to past events and challenges that cloud our perception of right action. Mercury is moving retrograde, and this will cause more confusion. It may be wise to document ideas and wait until mid-April before taking action.
  • Mars (strength, courage, assertiveness) is placed in Capricorn, an earth sign. This placement slows action but can strength the  physical body.
  • Sun (life) and Jupiter (good fortune, harmony) trine Chiron, which can help with healing old wounds and problems.
