May’s Full Moon brings light to the pale, night sky. On May 26, the super moon appears, accompanied by a lunar eclipse—the only one in 2021.
Lunar eclipses occur when the sun and moon are equal distances from the earth, and the moon passes through the earth’s shadow. Eclipses are said to act as a “reset” through the on/off motion of light. On an esoteric level, they can represent the motion of passing through the shadow of the psyche and awakening to a higher awareness of life.
Each month, the new and full moon charts write a story about “becoming”, which points to engagement between the lower and higher self. Each planet and its placement in a sign indicate a specific type of energy. The planets also indicate energies in the outer world. (It’s important to remember the planets impel but don’t compel. We have free will.)
With Sun, Mercury, and Venus in Gemini and the moon in Sagittarius, there are opposing forces with energy moving in many directions. Gemini is the sign of the twins; it brings qualities of quick mentality, rapid thought, talkativeness, and short journeys. It also involves communications and relationships with siblings. Both Sagittarius and Gemini involve thought.
The Sagittarius Moon focuses on the importance of emotions and thoughts as they relate to the soul’s journey. Gemini loves rapid thought–the quick understanding and compilation of knowledge. Gemini is represented by the duality of twins (dark/light, happy/sad, and lower/higher mind.)
Sun (life/light) trines (harmonious) Saturn (time, structure, karma), and it can increase studiousness, discipline, and alignment with purpose. Sun trines Pluto (underworld, transformation), which brings power and awareness of purpose to the surface.
Sun (life) and Moon (emotions) square (tension) Jupiter (expansion, good fortune), meaning that our thoughts and understanding of our direction may not align with expansion and growth. Squares ignite pressure on the psyche, and they can provide a push into finding answers, creating boundaries, or taking action.
Mercury will move into retrograde May 29 through June 22. Mercury in retrograde tends to cause delays with travel and confusion in general; however, it’s an excellent time for rest and completing projects that are already in motion.
Mercury (mind, communication) is well placed in Gemini, an air sign, which encourages brilliant, logical thoughts. Mercury conjuncts Venus (love, beauty, relationships), which aligns thought, communication, and the heart. It may be particularly easy to find our voice when speaking our personal truth—or simply feeling the union of emotion and thought. Mercury trines (harmonious) Jupiter (expansion, good fortune), which focuses the mind on optimistic and light hearted thoughts. (The higher mind can also aid in finding spiritual and/or inner direction.)
Mercury (thought) and Venus (love) square (tension) Neptune (mysticism, illusion). Neptune encourages intuition, sensitivity, and creativity. It can also cause confusion with thought and matters of the heart. The square tends to increase our tendency to become overwhelmed by illusions relating to the past. However, it’s possible to learn from the squares by using discernment and observing emotions.
Venus (art, beauty) trines (harmonious) Saturn (structure, karma). The aspect can increase creativity in a structured sense such as the development of talents and gifts in a practical sense. It also helps in finding solutions in relationships It is also about the development of beauty in the self, surroundings, and life.
Mars (action, assertion) is placed in Cancer, a water sign. Mars is emotional in this placement, and there’s often the need to work through “old” emotions and/or patterns before taking the next step. Mars trines Neptune (mysticism, illusion) stimulates passion and creativity. It lends boldness to thoughts and desires; it also activates the desire to aid with human rights and environmental issues. Mars opposes Pluto (underworld, transformation), which may increase frustration and agitation. The aspect also encourages using power to create positive change in a practical sense.
Jupiter (good fortune, expansion) is beautifully placed in Pisces. Some astrologers refer to it as the Guardian Angel as it offers a sweet, positive energy that brings optimism and hope. Jupiter in Pisces relates to development of creativity, intuition, compassion, and healing.
Saturn (limitation, karma) in Aquarius squares Uranus (quantum field, sudden change) in Taurus. Saturn often represents the old way of law, particularly pertaining to laws, the past, and accumulation of karma. Uranus represents the new, electronics, and sudden change. Put them together, and it’s easy to see the split in politics, humanity, and current events. (Difficulties, which Saturn often brings to surface, may improve or weaken us.) Hopefully, we’ll find new solutions.
- Eclipses and a super moon may feel intense, but the energy will pass in a few days.
- The right placement of thought is important with three planets (Sun, Mercury, Venus) in Gemini and Mercury (mind) in the shadow of retrograde.
- There are contradictory energies throughout the chart, which is similar to our experiences in life. For example, Sun (life) trines Pluto (underworld, transformation), which gives strength and power. Mars (action, male, the warrior) opposes Pluto, which can cause agitation and confusion. Through discernment, we can accurately align our actions with higher choices.
- Venus (love, art, relationships) trine Saturn (time, karma) helps with finding good structure for artistic endeavors.
- Jupiter (expansion) in Pisces encourages optimism and a positive outlook throughout June and July.
