The Value of Mantra

Mantras are usually sacred sounds, but they can also be simple words, colors or even a concept. Mantras connect us to the Divine, subtly raise our vibrations and can alleviate inner dialog or the monkey mind by substituting the string of words as a focus. The value of mantra lies in the remembrance of the true nature of the soul while concentrating on a higher concept — the basis of higher frequency.

Use of Mantra

Mantras can be chanted internally or verbally, although an audible chant is more powerful because the waves of sound formed in the throat and mouth immediately alter the particles of our auric or energy field.Chants quiet the mind, alleviate anxiety and raise our thoughts and emotions above ordinary life.

My first chant was “awaken”; I chanted the word internally for months. Eventually I did awaken, receiving the vision of the underlying light in every particle of matter and its resonance with Divine.

Later, I used the word “teacher” and found the wolves. As my studies deepened, I became fond of the Hindu chants and learned the Jonathon Goldman sacred sounds. I practiced chanting in circles and took classes. At first I found the sounds difficult and often experienced a loss of clear voice or tightness in my throat chakra — but it passed in time.

Repetition and Selection

Currently I suggest several simple chants for students –unless a particular phrase or concept pops intuitively to mind. The suggested number of rounds of repetition is 108, but it’s better to start with whatever pleases and add rounds from that point.

I like these:

1)  Om Shrim Maha Lakshmiyei Swaha – the original prosperity chant. It’s value to me lies in the connection with the Divine Feminine.

2) Om Apadamapa Hataram Dataram Sarva Sampadam Loka Bhi Ramam Sri Ramam Bhuyo Bhuyo Namamyaham – ultimate healing chant, utilizes the energy of Rama who came to earth to teach humans how to experience Divinity while in a human form.

3) Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha – this chant removes obstacles and karma from the help of Ganesha, the elephant god. Aids in turning the direction of one’s life toward success.

All chants can be heard by copying and pasting then typing in “youtube.”
