The New Moon occurred on January 29, 2025, at 7:35 am ET. New Moons bring a point of stillness—and a time of intent and resolution. Think of it as a new cycle, which gives energy as the moon grows and becomes luminous. It’s useful to meditate and focus on altering habits of emotion and thought, beginning a new project, and letting go of whatever is unwanted in life.
The New Moon chart presents the elements of air and water with very little fire and earth. With five planets placed in air and four planets in water, it’s important to stay grounded and focused on our heart’s desires. Jupiter brings good fortune and positivity. Aspects (or angles) with Saturn and Neptune can cause confusion and fog the consciousness. Additionally, many aspects with Pluto appear within the chart, and they encourage moving through the darkness of the subconscious for patterns or blocks. When the light of consciousness shines on patterns it becomes possible to understand and/or integrate these parts of the self. (Yes, this is true for everyone. The aspects ask for clarity and focus on a new life.)
Sun (life), Moon (emotion), Mercury (thought, communication), and Pluto (subconscious, transformation) are placed in Aquarius, which rules independence, group endeavors, and humanitarian pursuits. Aquarius is a fixed sign, and it can demonstrate a fixed mentality, which is sometimes radical.
Sun (life, light) in Aquarius conjuncts Mercury (communication, mind), sharpening intellect and intuition. Sun trine Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) gives growth, happiness, and new opportunities. Sun conjunct Pluto (underworld, transformation) affects the subconscious by shining light on our inner darkness. It also gives power and confidence to make substantial changes for those who seek it.
Moon in Aquarius gives emotional growth, new ideas, and a desire for social activities. Moon (emotion) conjunct Mercury (mind, communication) heightens emotional sensitivity and intuition; it can also boost communication skills. Moon trine Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) brings a sense of happiness and emotional growth. Moon conjunct Pluto (subconscious, transformation) may bring hidden feelings to the surface and create changes in life.
Mercury (thought, communication) in Aquarius speeds the mind, providing new—and sometimes unconventional thoughts. It aids with communication of all kinds. Mercury trine Jupiter (good fortune, expansion) gives clarity, confidence, and tolerance. It also opens the mind to spiritual knowledge and understanding. Mercury conjunct Pluto (subconscious, transformation) merges thought and psychological insights.
Venus (love, relationships, art) in Pisces is exalted, a position that increases our capacity to love in an unconditional, neutral way. Venus trine Mars (assertion, male) brings harmony in relationships and between the female/male aspects of the self. Venus conjunct Saturn (limitation, karma) may reveal personal issues around love, increase vulnerability, and bring a sense of loneliness. (It’s possible to alter these feelings by imagining what we want in place of these emotions.) Venus conjunct Neptune (illusion, mysticism) can help with lower emotions by increasing sensitivity, awareness, and intuition; it gives a heightened ability to express dreams through visualization and positive feelings.
Mars (assertion, male energy) is placed in Cancer, a water sign, which tends to magnify and create greater reaction to events related to emotions. Mars trine Saturn (limitation, karma) harmonizes energy and discipline, bringing a strong desire to move forward with long-term goals. Mars trine Neptune (illusion, mysticism) can lead to working on a vision to help others, finding a harmonious flow in life, or becoming obsessed with an idea, which leads to polarization.
Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) in Gemini expands knowledge and growth of electronics, new forms of communication, and increases the speed of thought. Jupiter square Saturn (limitation, karma) encourages releasing the past and meditating or visualizing a better present and future life. Jupiter trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) occurs about every 12 years, and the last trine with Jupiter in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius was in 1778-1789. The aspect increases good fortune, creates inner growth, and potential for success. It gives strength and enhances our potential.
Saturn (limitation, karma) in Pisces may encourage releasing the current pattern of victimhood, blame, and unhappiness—or it may bring about a new and better way of rewriting it in the future. Saturn in Pisces refers to the last 2,000 years as well as correcting the energies of this time.
Uranus (sudden change, quantum change) in Taurus speaks about the earth, and many earth changes have occurred during this time. Uranus ends its retrograde on January 30 when it will give form to possible innovative answers concerning the earth and its energy. It can also help on a personal level with breaking patterns and making substantial changes. Uranus sextile Neptune (illusion, mysticism) and Uranus trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) encourage spiritual study and growth.
Neptune (illusion, mysticism) in Pisces speaks about collective energy, both conscious and subconscious. It’s about how we feel when our energy moves into thoughts/feelings in a larger field of consciousness. In New Age writings, it’s often implied that if we move into alignment and clarity as a group, the entire world will alter in a positive way. (Pisces can be cloudy, inexact, and confusing.) Neptune sextiles Pluto, opening the door for spiritual truths and understanding.
Pluto (subconscious, transformation) in Aquarius reflects the creation of a new world—or a New Age. It’s likely to bring more electronics, space travel, and group endeavors. We can visualize these changes occurring positively by contemplating what we’d like to encounter.
