Moon of the Whispering Wind and Lunar Eclipse

The Full Moon appears at exactly 3 am ET on March 25, 2024. Called the “Moon of the Whispering Winds” by the Hopi, the name refers to the changing weather and wind, the many alterations in temperature that occur with the movement from winter to spring in the Northern Hemisphere. A penumbral lunar eclipse accompanies the full moon, which occurs when the full moon moves into the faint outer part of earth’s shadow. It lacks the drama of a full or partial lunar eclipse, but all lunar eclipses can illuminate subconscious patterns and aid with their transmutation into a higher form.

Astrologer Janet Kane wrote, “During a Lunar Eclipse, the opposing forces of the Sun and Moon reveal hidden aspects of life, urging us to confront and resolve repressed energies. Such eclipses, being emotional, heightened awareness of previously unnoticed matters, encouraging attention to dreams and inner feelings. These cosmic events are growth opportunities, shedding light on areas requiring attention.”

Overall, the chart is balanced between the four elements of fire, air, water, and earth. It offers many positive aspects, which is unusual with an eclipse—and a few contradictions and challenges as well.

Sun (life, light) is in Aries, the beginning of the astrological wheel—celebrated in the past as a powerful time of manifestation as it marked the beginning of the indigenous year. The Sabian Symbol for the Sun is “a square brightly lighted on one side”, and it refers to the ability to find creative solutions through spiritual illumination. Moon (emotions) in Libra, an air sign with a focus on balance, creativity, and artistic endeavors. The Sabian Symbol is “The Ideals of a Man Abundantly Crystallized”, a reference to our ability to manifest through focus and intent. (Obviously, it’s a very good time to visualize and intend positive outcomes.)

Sun conjunct Neptune (illusion, mysticism) hints at finding and applying mystical skills through meditation. It increases our connection with the unseen, subtle world. Sun sextile Pluto (subconscious, transformation) creates space for overcoming limitations and increases strength to move in the direction of goals.

Moon opposes Neptune (illusion, mysticism), coloring our perceptions through emotion, which may cause misunderstandings as well as the tendency to misread other people’s emotions. Moon trine Pluto (underworld, transformation) increases emotional sensitivity and psychic ability; it can also benefit relationships.

Mercury (communication) is placed in Aries, a fire sign, which sharpens the mind and encourages creativity.  Mercury square Pluto (underworld, transformation) can cause defensiveness and increases the tendency for arguments and misunderstandings. It’s important to remain patient and tolerant while the aspect ensues.

Venus (love, relationships) is in Pisces where it is exalted, encouraging feelings of universal love, heightening emotions and sensitivity in a positive sense. One of the very positive aspects in the chart is Venus sextile Jupiter (good fortune, expansion), which gives feelings of warmth and happiness. It can bring good luck and monetary gifts. Venus conjunct Saturn (limitation, karma) can cause distance in relationships and overspending. Venus sextile Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) increases the desire for socialization and expression of deeper aspects of the self.  It encourages spontaneity and self-awareness.

Mars (overall energy, male) sits in Pisces, a feminine water sign, which is not the best placement for the warrior energy of the planet. It encourages use of the imagination and creative solutions as opposed to action.  Mars square Pluto (subconscious, transformation) gives courage and willpower to succeed with our quests, but other people can act underhandedly and aggressively. (Stay calm and don’t retaliate. Find solutions that come from within.)

Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) in Taurus affects money, its fluctuations, and spending habits. Jupiter sextile Saturn (limitation, karma) gives positive outcomes and good fortune through work, particularly if we are honest and act with integrity. Jupiter conjunct Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) gives the desire for freedom, self-expression, and greater opportunity. It also increases open-mindedness and greater flexibility.

Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) sits in Taurus, an earth sign, and we’ve witnessed many changes in the earth during its placement. Neptune (illusion, mysticism) is in Pisces, connecting group consciousness through emotion. Neptune sextiles Pluto (subconscious, transformation), creating a special time for finding a teacher or moving into spiritual growth. Pluto (subconscious, transformation) in Aquarius may mark a change in our use of computers and AI as the sign of Aquarius rules electronics.

Tips

  1. It’s a wonderful time to meditate and visual desires. The positions of the Sun and Moon are very helpful, and it is the solar new year.
  2. Sun (life) sextile Neptune (illusion, mysticism) encourages spiritual devotion, study, and discoveries about the inner self. It also heightens artistic ability.
  3. Venus (love, relationships) sextile Jupiter (expansion) offers good luck and monetary gifts. Open to it and imagine good fortune flowing through your life.
  4. Use the courage and willpower of Mars (action) square Pluto (subconscious, transformation) to succeed with projects.
  5. Devote time for reflection and practice inner work. The penumbral eclipse can reveal aspects of consciousness that need transformation.
