The New Moon appeared on July 24th, beginning the cycle of the waxing moon that follows the night of dark stillness. This New Moon is a bit bumpy, but the chart offers supportive aspects. If we focus on transformation, we can easily navigate the waves.

Sun and Moon are in Leo, a passionate fire sign that rules the heart. Leo energy is sometimes dramatic or egotistical, but natives of Leo are also generous and loving. The placement encourages speaking through the heart. After all, we receive many emotions when we commune with another human being. It’s lovely when we can feel and speak our inner truth–and receive it from another person.

The Sun and Moon forge powerful aspects with trines to Saturn (karma, the past) and Neptune (idealism, illusion), which help with organization and dedication (Saturn) and artistic skills, sensitivity, and psychic skills (Neptune). Both planets sextile Uranus (sudden change, quantum field), giving a desire for independence and new experiences. Sun and Moon are in opposition to Pluto (subconscious, transformation), which can bring old trauma to the surface or cause emotional and political unrest. On a higher level, it’s about breaking through patterns and releasing the past. (The aspect concludes on July 27.)

Currently, Mercury (communication), Saturn (limitation), and Neptune (illusion, idealism) are in retrograde. If life feels a little slower or you feel as if you are anchored in an old state of being, it’s the triple retrograde. It may take longer to get from one place to another. You may feel a gravitational pull or reflect on the past. You may feel a little less psychic than usual. Saturn in Aries and Neptune in Aries are conjunct with very different forces that pull on our energy.

Retrogrades tend to take us within; add to this to the New Moon, a time of stillness, and the inner world may seem more appealing than the outer world. The Sabian Symbol (Lynda Hill) for Mercury retrograde on Leo 14 is “Cherub-like, A Human Soul Whispers into Every Receptive Ear, Seeking to Manifest”.  The message is clear: listening to the inner self can lead to transformation and definitive answers.

Venus (relationships, love) in Gemini is versatile, social, and interested in life. Venus square Mars (overall energy, masculine) can make it more difficult for communication between the sexes. Venus square Saturn (limitation, karma) marks a time to reassess values and expectations. Venus square Neptune (illusion, mysticism) can increase restlessness, artistic ability, and emotional reaction.

Mars in Virgo prefers efficiency and focused action. Mars opposes Saturn, which can create delays, working harder than usual to obtain the desired results, and new challenges in the future. However, Saturn tends to reward hard work. Mars trine Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) brings a flow of positive energy, innovative ideas and actions, and success.

Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) in Cancer creates a focus on the home and domestic life. Jupiter square Neptune (illusion, mysticism) brings a time of disillusionment and possibly a sense of “fogginess”, and it also gives a time to awaken and create new concepts and methods of living.

Saturn (limitation, karma) is retrograde in Aries, a fire sign. The planet sextiles Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) can indicate a time of positive change as we move through outdated concepts into innovative, new ideals. Saturn conjunct Neptune (idealism, mysticism) may bring a time of innovation, willpower, and courage.

Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) moved into Gemini for the first time since 1942. It speaks about new forms of communication—and how we choose to communicate through our words, teachings, texting, and posting. Uranus sextiles Neptune and trines Pluto, marking a time of openness and responsiveness to spiritual teachings and learning on a higher level.

Neptune (mysticism, illusion) in Aries is clear and direct, completely different from the floating and somewhat nebulous placement in Pisces. Neptune in Aries encourages acting, speaking, and feeling in a focused way.

Pluto (subconscious, transformation) in Aquarius indicates a new time, a new way of living, and transformation of life. Think of it as a new frontier.
