The New Moon reveals the stars glimmering like lanterns in the dark night sky. The New Moon appears on Monday, July 17, marking the end of the lunar cycle and the return to light. The elements are distributed between fire, water, and earth–and the chart lacks air, which rules thought.

The New Moon marks a fertile time with Sun and Moon in Cancer, the most fertile of the signs. Earth responds to the placement of Sun/Moon in an astrological “moon” chart—and it’s a time of growth and germination despite the normally still, quiet void of the Moon’s cycle.

Sun (life) and Moon (emotion) are in Cancer, the water sign symbolized by the crab. Cancer rules emotions, the home, the concept of the mother, and the sea. It increases emotions and the motion of moving back and forth with ideas and feelings like the motion of the ocean’s tide.

Sun sextiles Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) asks for a higher vision of life without our current limitations. (With this transit, small changes become particularly powerful, accumulating quickly.) Sun trine Neptune (mysticism, idealism) increases sensitivity and empathy for others. It helps with manifesting dreams for the future. It increases artistic talents and ability to perceive aspects of the occult.  Sun opposition Pluto (subconscious, transformation) aids with moving through compulsions and addictions; it emphasizes the importance of listening to the inner self and overcoming subconscious blocks.

Moon sextile Uranus revitalizes the domestic and emotional life. It emphasizes nurturing and comfort while opening the consciousness to new ways of experiencing life. Moon trine Neptune (mysticism, illusion) increases sensitivity, emotions, and artistic talent. It enhances dreams, daydreams, and fantasies. Moon opposition Pluto (subconscious, transformation) may cause deep emotional patterns and/or memories to surface. Through meditation, review, and observation, the energy can be transformed and released.

Mercury (communication, thought, mind) in Leo is bright and bold—and wishes to express the heart’s desires in a dramatic way. Mercury square Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) symbolizes the importance of making conscious choices with true focus. It asks for widening our understanding of life, and it brings optimism and a feeling of happiness.

Venus (love, beauty, abundance) in Leo is dramatic and demanding, seeks attention, and loves social outings. Venus conjuncts Mars (male, assertion, overall energy), creating a balance of energies within the yin/yang and male/female aspects of self, which gives harmony to relationships. Venus opposition Saturn (limitation, karma) heightens sensations of insecurity and vulnerability. (It may help to focus on self-love while realizing appreciation and praise are more likely when the transit ends.) Venus square Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) can cause upsets, fluctuations in behavior, and erratic behavior. (Don’t give into the energy. Meditate and focus on the goodness in life.)

Mars (male, overall energy) in Virgo, an earth sign that involves diligence, detail, and practicality. Mars in Virgo is great at organization, creating structure to move a project into completion, and noticing the next step. It’s progressive in a practical way, which is useful in the material world.  Mars trine Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) aids in creating a beautiful vision for the future; it brings optimism, opportunities for success, and additional energy. Mars opposition Saturn (karma, limitation) causes strong reactions from others, causing frustration, anger, or resentment. It’s a good time to remember who you truly are—and remain unbothered (when possible) until the energy fades.

Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) in Taurus, an earth sign ruled by Venus, asks for expansion and evolution of our dreams in a practical format. (It’s not enough to dream it; we must put it into form.) Jupiter sextile Saturn (limitation, karma) creates an optimistic and realistic outlook on life. It gives opportunities, patience, and perseverance with life and business opportunities. It offers increased growth of dreams and desires.

Saturn (limitation, karma) in Pisces, a water sign ruling past, karma, old souls, and endings, may address the karma of the past age by awakening us to mistakes and right action during the last age. It also concerns the astral field, the conglomeration of thoughts, emotions, and beliefs of lower consciousness.

Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) in Taurus may apply to earth changes, quantum breakthroughs with energy, and understanding the value of our planet. Uranus sextile Neptune (mysticism, idealism) brings interest in the mystical and spiritual world, which is urgently needed. Uranus trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) indicates a positive period of growth and evolution for those who desire to awaken and merge with spiritual truth.

Neptune (mysticism, idealism) in Pisces, a water sign, connects everyone in a sea of emotion. Fortunately, the level of immersion depends on the placement of our consciousness. Neptune sextile Pluto (subconscious, transformation) indicates a time of moving beyond societal tradition and limitation—and moving into realizations from our higher consciousness.

Pluto (underworld, transformation) in Capricorn is retrograde, moving back through aspects of consciousness that address the past such as world governments, laws, and other issues.
