Full Harvest Moon

In early fall, bright leaves intermingle with summer flowers, and the light grows dimmer.  As cooler weather appears, the trees are adorned with radiant colors, the sky turns clear blue, and the world sparkles. This transformation takes place between the signs of Virgo and Libra.

The Full Moon appears on Monday, September 20 at 7:54 pm ET.  The Autumn Equinox follows on September 22 with a day/night of balanced light and darkness. The Full Moon brings a period of heightened emotion and growth; it increases the overall energy of the planet. September’s New Moon brought potential to manifest, and the Full Moon brings examination of blocks and limitations along with powerful energies to create and take action.

Sun (life, light) is placed in the last degrees of Virgo, which alternately represents the virgin priestess (virgin=metaphysically pure), the perfectionist, and the servant. In all three cases, the character refers to a series of actions in the physical world, which produce a tangible result. With recent energetic changes, it may refer to the need to moving into purity, perfecting our perception of life, and serving more of the needs of the inner self.

Sun conjuncts Mars (action, energy), giving physical vitality and strength—including perseverance with dreams and goals. The Sun trines (harmonious) Saturn (limitation, karma), evoking strength and understanding from the past. Sun opposes Neptune, creating a mist between the moment of searching and perceiving the future.

Moon (emotions, inner self) is beautifully placed in Pisces, a water sign, which adds emotion along with a tendency to recall the past. The Moon is in opposition to Mars (action), creating conflict between the desire for action and various emotions. Moon conjuncts (close to) Neptune in Pisces, and this heightens the ability to glimpse the unseen world, intensifies night dreams, and increases artistic ability and insight.

Pluto, the outer planet ruling the underworld/subconscious and transformation—basically from the River Styx to the flight of the phoenix—involves six planets including Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Uranus, and Neptune.  Pluto also rules mass consciousness, the quality of many minds and emotions when we come together as one on a higher or lower vibration. (Many of the aspects are positive. Interestingly, it’s an important time to avoid social media and news; perhaps, it’s time to create a positive/personal global worldview.)

Mercury (communications) sits in Libra, encouraging reflection and balance. Mercury trines (harmonious) Jupiter (good fortune, expansion), meaning the right thoughts can accelerate and open our path to growth. Mercury squares (tension) Pluto (subconscious, transformation), which intensifies and deepens our thoughts.

Mercury (mind, communications) moves into retrograde on September 27, and it’s important to begin new endeavors before this time. Mercury retrograde is a passive time of reviewing the past and envisioning/rewriting the future; it’s not the right time to begin a new project.

Venus is in Scorpio, a water sign with intensity and depth—as well as emotion. Venus is in somewhat of a “mood” as she squares Saturn, bringing in karma and memories from the past. Venus opposes Uranus, increasing erratic reactions in love relationships and partnerships.

Mars (action) is typically strong willed and full of desire, but it’s more passive and pensive when placed in Libra. The emphasis shifts to diplomacy, fairness, and seeing both sides of the equation. It’s also useful for bringing balance to social issues. On the other side of the equation, Mars trines Saturn (limitation, karma), adding strength and ambition to the mix. Mars trine Pluto (subconscious/transformation) adds will and desire.

Jupiter (good fortune) and Saturn (limitation/karma) square Uranus (change, quantum field). These aspects tend to draw a sharp line between opposite field of thought and belief. Jupiter and Saturn are both placed in Aquarius, which concerns electronics (how much is good/bad?), the future, and humanity as a whole.

Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) offers a time to approach life from a new view. It brings constructive change, a restful period to heal and recreate our lives.

Tips and Thoughts

  • The combination of Sun in Virgo and Moon in Pisces is vibrant and energizing. Earth and water help to create in physical form.
  • Mercury in Libra encourages balance, harmony, and reflection. Meditate on the thoughts that align with the inner self for expansion.
  • Venus is not happy or relaxed in this chart. Pull back from disagreements and look for balance when possible. Focus on smooth emotions.
  • Mars is Libra is more reflective than usual, but aspects with Saturn and Pluto intensify the will and ambition.
  • The many aspects with Pluto lend an opportunity to strengthen the will, follow desires, and find the courage to find a new path.

Planetary Change: Full Harvest Moon

As fall comes with the turn of the season, we move into another time of energetic change. The Full Harvest Moon on October 1 brings big waves of energy, which require proper navigation. It’s important to find direction through the inner self, which acts as the North Star, and proceed in the direction of its light and beauty. (Many aspects in the chart will help with the journey—although it is not an easy one.)

Sun is placed in Libra, an air sign, and Moon is in Aries, a fire sign. Sun in Libra is about balance, harmony, cooperation, and relationships. Relationships can vary from partners, friends, the inner self, and our view of life. It also rules commitments, and the chart focuses on commitment to the self and the aspects of life, which are important to our growth. Moon in Aries increases impulsiveness, creativity, and conflict. (Conflict is less likely if we take inspired action.)

Sun (life) squares Jupiter (expansion, growth). This aspect brings tension between our desires and reality. It heightens the need to push, achieve, and accomplish, but it clouds the issue with demands from the ego when inner growth is the true issue. Inner growth requires dedication, persistence, and practice as well as clarity of purpose. It’s actually an opportunity to see how our beliefs about success, the self, and life can interfere with the pursuit of the dreams of our heart. (For example, we can think about the blocks or patterns that appear in the areas of life that are not working well. What are the thoughts and feelings, which accompany the blocks? Are there new actions, emotions, or insights, which might be useful?)

Moon (emotions/feelings) squares (tension) Jupiter (expansion, growth). The square tends to exaggerate emotions, sensitivity, and impulses—as well as the desire to manifest. However, emotions can act as a distraction by overpowering the desire to work and remain focused. They can color and distort the experience of life through overwhelm or self-indulgence, which leads away from the desire to express inner gifts and talents through work.  Self-discipline is needed to move through this influence.

Mercury (communications, mind) is placed in Scorpio, a passionate water sign that sees beneath the surface. Mercury in Scorpio is intense and emotional, and this can cause difficulty with receiving a clear read. Conversely, it can also reveal deeper truths behind the workings of the mind. Mercury squares (tension) Saturn (limitation, karma), and it tends to give focus to negative thinking, shyness, and reserve, but it’s possible to master the energy by working through the blocks or becoming conscious of them—at least.

Mercury is in opposition to Uranus (sudden change, quantum field), which creates a wave of nervous energy, the desire to perform several tasks at once, and sudden, abrupt upsets. Mercury rules communications, and there is a greater chance of incorrect reporting, and opinions are easily misunderstood. A frantic/hurried feeling can accompany the aspect.

NOTE: Mercury in Scorpio moves into the final retrograde for 2020 on October 13. It’s a time to retreat within, review the changes in the world for 2020, and find personal truths about life. The retrograde is likely to feel intense as it affects emotion—and Mars will be retrograde in Aries.

Mars (overall energy, passion, male) is retrograde in Aries, the strong sign of the warrior. Mars can bestow feelings of frustration, or it can give the power to move through problems and find solutions. (We use the energies in move ahead with dreams and projects—or we can feel overwhelmed by the strange flow of energy.) Mars makes two squares, which influence and enhance the feeling of the chart.

Venus (love, partnerships, beauty) is in Virgo, an earth sign.  When placed in Virgo, Venus can help with health rituals, exercise, and diet. Venus trines (harmonious) Mars, which supplies balance and understanding between yin/yang aspects in life and male/female relationships.

With Mars retrograde, life does not appear to move in a straight line with clear direction. It’s similar to driving on a road around a mountain. Mars squares Jupiter (good fortune, expansion), which heightens creativity and the desire to take action—without adding the factor of logical thought. It expands enthusiasm and excessive emotions. Mars squares Saturn (limitation, karma) contributes feelings of limitation and restriction, particularly with current circumstances of life. It’s important to look at meaningful projects and progress—and move more deeply into current plans as opposed to projections.

Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) trine Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) is a blessing in this chart. The harmonious energy between the two planets opens our minds to a bigger picture, opening our psyche to greater possibilities. It helps with new ideas, moving through stagnation, and finding/creating brighter dreams for the future. Jupiter sextiles (positive) Neptune (illusion, mysticism), which can bring a feeling of optimism and connection with the Divine.

Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto remain conjunct in the same aspect, which brought about the current changes in energy and structure of the world. The aspect continues throughout the year.
