The Harvest Moon is the first full moon after the autumn equinox, and it differs from other moons by appearing near sunset and illuminating the earth for one to two hours with its light. In agricultural societies, the Harvest Moon extended the hours of gathering crops before the arrival of frost. (The gift of extended light continues for about 5-6 days.)

The Harvest Moon appears on Friday, September 29 at 5:57 a.m. It’s another supermoon, intensifying all aspects of life—particularly emotion, germination, and fruition.

On every full moon, the Sun and Moon sit in opposite signs, which presents an equation for creating balance. Sun is in Libra, and the Moon sits in Aries. Sun in Libra emphasizes relationships, harmony, and beauty with a tendency to contemplate life from many angles. Aries is somewhat self-centered, driven, creative, and fiery. The challenge lies in balancing the desires of the self with the needs of others. It’s about finding balance on all levels (spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically) while focusing on personal quests.

In this chart, there is only one aspect with the Sun (light, life), which is Sun trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation). It’s a very positive aspect that opens doors to self-discovery, illumination, and a deeper understanding of life. It’s an excellent time to make substantial changes in life as Pluto strengthens personal will and power.

Mercury (communications, mind, electronics) is in Virgo, which sharpens the mind and gives awareness about the importance of details and order. Mercury trines Jupiter (expansion, good fortune), suggesting placing attention on the practice of visualizing and projecting a better future—as well as creating plans for happiness, success, and abundance. (Trines with Jupiter give a feeling of optimism and increased energy. The best idea lies in combining the uplifted feelings with realistic growth on the physical plane.)

Mercury trine Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) excites the mind, encourages change, and increases curiosity. It favors chance encounters and a futuristic perspective. Mercury opposition Neptune (mysticism, illusion) clouds the mind through an illusionary process, which necessitates listening to the heart and inner self. (Think of news broadcasts that are strongly biased—or the current lack of clear information.) Mercury trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) gives the desire to see beneath the surface of events and social activities. It sharpens perception and gives a deeper understanding of energetic exchanges.

Venus, the planet of beauty, pleasure, and abundance, is currently placed in Leo.  Venus square Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) increases the need for pleasant feelings, including attention, clothing, and beauty. Underlying this need, we may find dissatisfaction with relationships or life. Venus opposition Saturn (limitation, karma) brings conflicts in relationships, drawing attention to old wounds and vulnerabilities–which may result in blame or criticism. A balance is needed between responsibility and pleasure and between individual needs and demands of partnerships.  Venus square Pluto (subconscious, transformation) increases control issues, tension, and struggles in existent relationships. It’s possible to positively transform these issues with relationships through use of the will and inner strength. (Aspects with Venus may temporarily cause separation from feelings of harmony and love, but it will dissipate as time passes.)

Mars (assertion, male energy) in Libra, a sign that tends to seek balance rather than action. It’s a bit out of t—and is often indecisive in this placement. The energy of Mars concerns action, discipline, and altering our character by overcoming weaknesses, which is an ongoing task. Mars square Pluto (underworld, transformation) brings power struggles, confrontations, and frustrations. It’s wise to move beyond blame and find answers within the self, which stimulates more neutral responses that come from the heart.

Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) in Taurus focuses on the expression of ideas, ambition, and desires in the physical world. Jupiter conjunct Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) remains in place through mid-2024. It focuses on sudden, positive change and the desire to have “more” expansion, abundance, or good fortune—depending on the placement of consciousness.

Saturn (limitation, karma) is on the first degree of Pisces, which can represents the confusion of emotion and duality. It also aligns with the Past Age, endings, and old souls. Saturn squares Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) heightens tension and challenges, marking a period when it’s particularly important to break through old patterns and habits.

Uranus (sudden change, quantum field), Neptune (mysticism), and Pluto (underworld, transformation) form beautiful sextiles and a trine that elicit interest in the metaphysical world and support spiritual growth.

Retrograde Planets

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and North Node are in retrograde. Six retrograde planets can seriously impact our energy level; they also make it more difficult to accomplish our goals. Greater levels of patience and perseverance are necessary for a month or more.
