The Full Moon appears on August 1 at 2:32 pm ET as the first of two supermoons during the month of August. Supermoons occur when the moon’s orbit is closest to earth, affecting the tides of the sea, overall energy, and human emotion.

Sun is in Leo, marking the passage of the Lion’s Gate—which occurs between July 28 and August 12. The Lion’s Gate takes place when Sirius, the dog star, precedes the sun and aligns with Orion’s belt and the pyramids, bringing a wave of solar light. (Think of it as a cosmic blast.) Solar light is associated with masculine energy such as spirituality, and pure light. (Solar light is “yang”, and it can feel over-stimulating on a mental/creative level unless we take time for rest and reflection.)

The Sabian Symbol for Sun on Leo 10 is “Early Morning Dew Sparkles as Sunlight Floods the Field”, indicating a metamorphosis of self into a higher, lighter expression of being. Sun (life) in Leo bestows passion, drama, and intensity. Symbolized by the lion, Leo is bold, brave, and charismatic. Moon (emotion) in Aquarius aligns with originality, the future, independence, and group endeavors.

The Sun and Moon are in opposition—as they always are during a full moon—and the two planets square Jupiter, forming the shape of a “T”.  T-squares exert tension and pressure, sometimes pushing us up to the next level of life.

Sun (life) square Jupiter (good fortune) gives feelings of optimism and pride, but the result varies from success to loss. The aspect emphasizes the importance of moderation and self-restraint. It asks for a conservative attitude with work, spending, and socializing. Moon (emotion) square Jupiter (good fortune, expansion) creates changeable moods and feelings that can lead to expansion.

Mercury (communication, thought) is exalted in Virgo, an earth sign, which increases analytical skills, practicality, and mysticism, and it denotes an excellent balance between the inner and outer mind. Mercury conjunct Venus (feminine, relationships) heightens appreciation of art and beauty. It encourages harmony and pleasantness with conversations and interactions. Mercury conjunct Mars (energy, assertion) increases mental activity and focus, and it may cause irritable thoughts and feelings. Mercury trine Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) gives optimism, helps with research, and aids with future planning. Mercury opposition Saturn (limitation, karma) tends to lower self-esteem and increases negative thoughts.

Venus (feminine, relationship, art) in Leo is proud, dramatic, and emotional. Venus opposition Saturn (karma, limitation) causes self-doubt, sadness, and limitations with love and finances. (It can be countered by focusing on positive thoughts and the inner self.) Venus square Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) heightens artistic abilities and creativity; it can also cause unpredictable behavior and outbursts, particularly on the emotional level. The need for independence and excitement in life is heightened. Venus is in retrograde, making loving relationships a bit confusing and difficult.

Mars (male, energy) in Virgo, an earth sign, asks for examination of daily habits and brings energy for work, health, and attention to detail. Mars trine Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) aids with new opportunities and success, brings optimism, and helps with overcoming problems. Mars opposition Saturn (limitation, karma) creates frustration and anger, which can be cleared by meditating on its cause —and finding a way of neutral expression. Mars trine Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) gives the need for independence and finding new paths in life. With the right changes, it can bring surprisingly happy results.

Jupiter in Taurus concerns the physical world—turning work into wealth, thoughts into form, and the Earth. Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) conjunct Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) brings freedom, positive results, and personal growth. It can also bring positive surprises and good luck.

Saturn (limitation, karma) is retrograde in Pisces, influencing the karma of the past age, including endings, knowledge from past lives, and mystical beliefs.

Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) in Taurus involves the relationship of technology and the earth. Uranus sextile Neptune (mysticism, illusion) increases the spiritual and mystical perception of life.  It brings answers through dreams and flashes of insight. Uranus trine Pluto (underworld, subconscious) represents a positive phase in evolution and possible rebirth.

Neptune (mysticism, illusion) retrograde in Pisces sextile Pluto (subconscious, transformation) retrograde in Capricorn offers a period of spiritual development and growth.

Tips:

  1. The energy may feel intense, but supermoons are good for manifesting. With Sun placed on the degree of “early morning light sparkles”, there’s a possibility of rebirth.
  2. The T-square exerts pressure, but squares help in pushing through obstacles and finding new answers–or seeing life from a different perspective.
  3. Mercury in Virgo clears the mind and helps with attaining focus and clarity. It links the rational and spiritual minds.
  4. Contradictions are found with aspects associated with Venus and Mars. Notice your feelings, remain realistic, and focus on higher feelings and thoughts.
  5. Aspects with Uranus and Neptune aid in tuning into the cosmos with its beautiful, hidden wisdom.
