The New Moon appears on October 25 at 6:48 am ET, 3:48 PT along with a solar eclipse in Scorpio.
Solar eclipses occur when the moon passes between the sun and earth during the New Moon. They occur during the new moon phase, which signifies the return of light and growth. During an eclipse, the moon blocks the sun and causes temporary darkness.
On a spiritual level, a solar eclipse acts as like a reset button. Think of flipping the switch on the fuse box after a power outage; light and power flow back through a building. The same is true with our body and spirit, but the return of light can heighten the power of our thoughts and feelings. It’s best to reset the energy with focus on our internal, spiritual vision.
Light and darkness play through this chart. There is a focus on light (male, warmth, life) through aspects with Sun, Moon, Venus, and Mercury. But three planets in Scorpio and Pluto’s influence hold equal weight in this chart, denoting an opportunity to transmute the darker energies of the past into a new form.
Sun (life), Moon (emotions), and Venus (love, relationships) are in Scorpio, sometimes considered a “dark” sign. Ruling the eighth house of birth and death, Scorpio delivers qualities such as passion, rebirth, psychic abilities, and intense emotion. It’s a fixed sign with a deep focus on desire. Scorpio tends to accentuate awareness of inner darkness and fears, but it also encourages rebirth, which takes place in the light.
Scorpio tends to accentuate awareness of inner darkness and fears, but the sign also encourages rebirth, which takes place in the light. Think of it as a dark star—a hole or tear in the universe–which was initially considered a place of enormous entropy. Dark stars are also stellar nurseries where new stars are born. Think of the dark sky of the New Moon. In the darkness, the stars are brightest. (The same process occurs with awakening, the illumination of all parts of the soul and aspects of the inner/outer being.) While we can view the eclipse and New Moon as a dark time, we actually experience rebirth by delving into the darkness of the outer personality and illuminating it with light
Sun (life) and Moon (emotion) are conjunct Mercury (thought, mind). Sun conjunct Mercury gives a strong focus with thought and communication, making it a wonderful time for self-expression. Moon conjunct Mercury heightens sensitivity and positive communications with loved ones. It also helps with writing, language, and communication.
Sun and Moon are conjunct Venus, the planet of beauty, which is a positive aspect. Sun conjunct Venus strengthens character and values. Venus rules the lovely aspects of life, and it makes life seem more beautiful. It supports finances, social events, and creativity. Moon conjunct Venus brings pleasant feelings to relationships and invokes gentle, loving feelings.
Sun and Moon trine Mars (overall energy, assertion). Sun trine Mars encourages desires and passion, which relate to the inner self and help with discernment between desires from the soul and ego. Moon trine Mars opens the flow of emotions, encouraging positive channeling into expression of desires. It also gives a strong emotional connection with work.
Mercury (mind, communications, travel) is in Libra, an air sign. Libra rules relationships and brings balance. Mercury trine Mars (assertion, male) quickens the mind, gives courage, and enhances imagination. (It also accelerates the ability to listen deeply and observe.) Mercury trine Saturn (limitation, past, karma) focuses on the practical, delivering the truth or insights in a clear way, and acting on goals.
Venus (love, relationships, abundance) is in Scorpio, which is basically about creating what you want—but it’s not good at separating ego and the inner self. It wants what it wants, and it doesn’t think a great deal about others or positive outcomes. (However, we don’t have to go there if we stay with our inner practices.) Venus trines Mars (assertion, male) benefits social encounters, and it helps in balancing the soft, gentle aspects of love with the more passionate side of self. Venus square Pluto (transformation, subconscious fears) compels expression and awareness of the difficulties and deeper feelings with loved ones.
Happy Halloween! Mars (overall energy, assertion) moves into retrograde on October 31 and remains in this position until January 12. Think of a Roman warrior, dressed for battle, who stays in a cave for two months. That’s how Mars in retrograde feels, bringing confusion, resentment, and lack of physical energy. (However, we can overcome the energy in small ways and commit to progress.)
Currently, Mars trines Saturn (past, limitations) aids with following our passion, giving perseverance and strength to accomplish our goals. Mars square Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) increases energy for focus on the positive and heightens boldness with pursuing dreams. Mars square Neptune (illusion, mysticism) increases deception and confusion. It’s important to use judgement, weigh situations carefully, and to focus on truth and honesty.
Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) is on the last degree of Aries before retrograding into Pisces. Jupiter in Aries acts bravely and boldly. It increases our power and ability to obtain dreams. Jupiter conjunct Neptune (illusion, mysticism) underscores the unity and light, which is within all of us. It’s also an excellent time for spiritual study. Jupiter sextile Pluto (subconscious, transformation) aligns us with our inner power and ability to create change.
Saturn (limitation, karma, time) in Aquarius squares Uranus (new age, sudden change) in Taurus. Saturn in Aquarius could refer to electronics, data, and the current way of surveillance through the internet and wi-fi devices. Uranus in Taurus pertains to the earth and nature. Perhaps, part of the issue refers to the relationship of electronics and nature. (We’ve forgotten nature in the quest for rapid communication.)
Uranus (sudden change, New Age) sextile Neptune (illusion, mysticism) emphasizes spiritual awakening. Uranus trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) heightens power, clarity, and the ability to create positive change.
Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus square Pluto. Sun square Pluto presents a conflict between the desire to control life—based on subconscious fear–or to surrender to a higher power—and transform the fabric of experience. Moon (emotion) square Pluto (transformation, subconscious) may cause hidden feelings and emotion to surface. Mercury (thought) square Pluto tends to exaggerate thinking and the tendency to criticize through our words. Venus (love) square Pluto creates power and control issues in loving relationships to expand by intensifying emotions and subconscious fears, which can be overcome by remaining centered.
