Once in a blue moon, dreams come true, the doors of opportunity open, or a higher state of being is discovered through awakening.

A blue moon appears on August 30, and it’s also a supermoon. When two full moons occur in one month, it’s called a blue moon. A supermoon makes a close approach to the earth, and this is the largest moon of the year. (The moon remains full through August 31/September 1.) It also marks the last full moon of summer.

The Blue Moon carries huge waves of energy, and it’s an important time for examining intention and focus. With 7 planets in retrograde, it’s easy to find distractions, but this moon is for manifesting high desires and spiritual connection. With many planets placed in earth signs, the possibility of concentration, grounding, and focus is heightened. It’s a very interesting chart with an emphasis on seeking growth, completing goals, and finding expansion on the spiritual and physical level.

Sun (life, light) is in Virgo, an earth sign that focuses on detail, work, and perfection. Symbolized by the High Priestess, it can heighten healing and spiritual understanding. Moon (emotion) sits in Pisces, a water sign that rules past lives, emotions, and creativity.

Sun (life, light) trines Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) creates a harmonious flow between intentions, desires, and the execution of both. It gives the qualities of growth, prosperity, and good fortune. Sun opposition Saturn (limitation, karma) can affect self-confidence and draw attention to limiting circumstances. (Fortunately, other aspects in the chart help with this influence. Remember that’s only temporary. See it as the sun hidden by clouds. When the clouds disburse, the light reappears.)

Moon (emotion) conjunct Saturn (limitation, karma) causes awareness of emotional limitations, sometimes bringing feelings of loneliness or isolation. It’s important to open the heart to new emotional/social interactions while sharing our inner feelings. Emotions concerning work, goals, and aspirations should be examined.

Mercury (communications, mind) is retrograde in Virgo. (Glitches in computer programs, internet, and traffic are often observed during this time.) Mercury in Virgo usually gives detailed, clear, and brilliant thoughts, but it’s a bit clouded by the retrograde. During a retrograde, it’s wise to avoid new projects, signing contracts, and traveling time is affected.

Of all planets in this chart, Mercury forms many aspects—placing special attention on the mind and communication. Mercury trine Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) is a wonderful aspect, combining harmony, the mind, and realistically expanding life through long-term goals. It gives the ability to focus practically and optimistically on the future. Mercury trine Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) opens the mind to intellectual possibilities, helps with learning technology, and brings exciting new ideas. Mercury opposition Neptune (mysticism, illusion) brings a lack of clarity and confusion to the thought process. Fortunately, it heightens creativity and ability with art. Mercury trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) takes thought to a deeper level and sharpens the mind.

Venus (love, relationships, abundance) remains in Leo with her desire for attention, social gatherings, and drama. Venus moves from retrograde to direct on September 3 when it becomes navigating relationships and feelings about loved ones becomes easier. (As Venus moves into direct position, we’ll experience greater self-confidence and vitality.) Venus square Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) brings awareness of the need for growth, but it can also cause extravagance and over-spending. Venus trines Chiron (the wounded healer), which speaks of the power of love to mitigate karma and wounds.

Mars (assertion, male) in Libra, an air sign, seeks balance and weighs duality. It’s not an ideal sign for action because we tend to see both sides of a problem simultaneously and hesitate instead of moving decisively. Mars trine Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) heightens instinct and intuition; it draws us in the direction of interesting, unique, and unusual experiences. Mars opposition Neptune (mysticism, illusion) weakens morale and vitality. It can bring discouragement and/or weak boundaries. Mars trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) sharpens ambition and the desire to succeed. It also gives the power to complete projects and achieve internal change.

Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) is placed in Taurus, an earth sign that rules abundance and creating in physical form. Jupiter rules expansion, making it an excellent time to put desires, dreams, and hopes into an expression that others can access and apply. Jupiter conjunct Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) brings a surprisingly positive turn of events and a strong desire for freedom of limitation.

Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) moved into retrograde on August 28, which smooths its wild, evolutionary (or revolutionary) path into changes and alteration of human life. Its slower motion can help by giving additional time to plan and dream up the next aspect of life without the “push” that usually accompanies it. Uranus sextile Neptune (illusion, mysticism) gives answers to questions in life through dreams, flashes of insight, and meditative work.  Uranus trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) brings a positive period of evolution and transformation, particularly through spiritual work.

Neptune (illusion, mysticism) in Pisces is retrograde, smoothing the lines between illusion and inner knowledge through the astral field. It’s particularly important to use discernment during this time—and to make use of the creativity which accompanies this placement. Neptune sextile Pluto (subconscious, transformation) increases our interest in metaphysics, spirituality, and philosophy.

Pluto is retrograde in Capricorn, wandering backwards through the degrees that were traversed in 2020. As a result, many of the political and social issues have resurfaced.
