The New Moon appears on Friday, May 19 at 11:53 am ET. It brings quiet and stillness—the qualities of the void–before the moon begins to grow.  This period of stillness literally provides a pause, a time for rest and contemplation to plan new beginnings.

Many planets are found in earth signs, giving a sensation of stability and grounding. Sun (life), Moon (emotion), Mercury (thought), Jupiter (good fortune), Uranus (sudden change) and North Node, which rules evolution and the future, sit in Taurus, the sign of abundance and beauty. Taurus also gives physical strength, sensuality, stubbornness, and a practical outlook on life.

We will feel the energies of the many aspects with Sun (life), Moon (emotion), and Mercury (thought, communication) during the next few days. These planets influence our feelings about life and light, emotion, and thought. Sun, Moon, and Mercury move quickly, so their influence is relatively brief. Aspects for strength, perseverance, and volatility are found in the chart, which is somewhat like a sunny day with unexpected thunderstorms.

Sun and Moon sextile Mars (action, energy), which focuses on boldness, confidence, courage, and physical strength to complete projects and move through obstacles, and/or difficulties.  This aspect can also cause emotional outbursts and instability.  Sun square Saturn (limitation, time, karma) can bestow determination to overcome limitations in life, and Moon square Saturn may cause shyness and low self-esteem.  Sun conjunct Uranus (change, quantum field) can bring sudden change through unexpected events, including new methods of thinking and opportunities. Moon conjunct Uranus may cause emotional impulsiveness and heightened psychic ability. Sun and Moon sextile Neptune (illusion, mysticism, which) heightens the imagination, creativity, and the ability to communicate with the unseen world. Sun and Moon trine Pluto (subconscious, transformation) intensifies the experience of life, and it increases personal power and the ability to help others through our inner abilities.

Mercury (thought, communication) in Taurus is direct, increasing speed of thought, and clarity; it also aids with translating ideas into physical form.  Mercury square Mars (action) may cause rapid  thinking, which lacks focus and clarity. (Think twice before acting.) Mercury conjunct Jupiter (good fortune) may bring positive ideas, optimistic thinking, and positive outcomes. Mercury square Pluto (underworld, transformation) gives deep, intense thinking as well as insights into mysteries concerning the self.

Venus (love, beauty, relationships) in Cancer, a water sign, focuses on the family, emotions, and domestic life. It’s important to notice the focus of the heart by extending love to all aspects of life—and remain balanced during this placement. Venus trines Saturn (karma), enhancing structure of ideas and emphasizing the importance of applying lessons and knowledge, which are based on the past.

Mars (energy, male, assertion) in Cancer is emotional, sometimes causing difficulty with taking focused action. Confusion may ensue as the result of emotional imbalance combined with the need for assertion and/or action. Mercury trine Neptune (illusion, mysticism) helps in receiving the higher frequencies of harmony, mysticism, and artistic creativity. Mars opposition Pluto (subconscious, transformation) gives intensity and courage to achieve goals; it can also cause aggression. (Aspects with Mars can cause strong or volatile emotions. Review thoughts and feelings before taking action.)

Jupiter (good fortune, expansion) is placed in Taurus, amplifying beauty, abundance, and creating in physical form. Taurus prefers stability and comfort, but the aspect may lead to finding new discoveries and methods of living in harmony with the earth.  Jupiter sextiles Saturn (karma, limitation), which helps in translating ideas into form and approaching new endeavors in a balanced way. Jupiter opposition Pluto (subconscious, transformation) expands power and the ability to achieve; it amplifies personal intensity and magnetism, but it’s important to remain open to other points of view by remaining flexible and open to differing points of view.

Saturn (limitation, karma) is in the Pisces, the sign of two fish swimming in opposite directions. Pisces swims in many directions and connects emotionally. We may feel our karma intermittently with this placement. Uranus (sudden change, quantum field) in Taurus lends interest to electronics and the earth. It’s interesting to contemplate the role of instant information and access to the internet with the concept of balance with nature. Likely, it’s possible to combine and alter the electronic world with the natural one.

Neptune (mysticism, illusion) in Pisces can connect us in a sea of love or in the turmoil of lower consciousness. It encompasses the shared field of emotion and mysticism; our placement of consciousness affects the energies that we receive.

Pluto (subconscious transformation) in Aquarius affects the subconscious, expression of power, and the ability to recreate ourselves. It contains the mysteries of the psyche and clues to psychological and spiritual growth. The sign of Aquarius encourages freedom, independence, and the power of the group.
